Alex has over 21 years experience as a graphic designer. Since he was very young he has been passionately interested in art and design and knew that this was where his natural talent, and future career, lay. His first job was as an apprentice for a printing company and this proved to be an invaluable, hands-on experience as he became fully versed in the printing process, from how paper was made through to the technicalities of printing, to the finished product.
He moved on to work for various successful London design agencies, some large and some small and over a number of years, produced design work for a huge variety of industry sectors such as finance, property, retail, health, travel, hospitality and consumer goods. He also worked as a freelance designer and this led to him starting his own business, Origin 1, with his wife, also a designer, at the end of 1998.
Origin 1's aim was to offer high end, quality design solutions to SME's at affordable rates thus enabling them to have a professional brand identity that could compete with their larger competitors. Over the last nine years they have established successful, long term relationships with their clients, helping them to grow their businesses which has enabled Origin 1 in turn to grow and develop into a team of five operating from its own purpose-built offices.
There are many case studies which prove Origin 1's worth and experience in design and communication. One example, at the budget end of the scale, was the design of a small email flyer for a client at a cost of £150, which led to new business worth £60,000. Another example was helping a company win a £35m pitch for a UEFA Champions League sponsor worth £1m to their business.
Origin 1 has been involved with design for the dental profession for the past nine years, virtually since its start up; this came about from a few initial design projects for dentists which developed from word of mouth and a portfolio of work which just kept growing. Alex became well versed in the marketing, branding and communication needs of dentists as these can be quite different from many other commercial industry sectors. He went on to develop this niche and specialist market under the Origin 1 brand, design4dentists and has helped in excess of 100 dentists to successfully market and grow their practices with professionally designed marketing and and branding materials.
